Rolex With International Success and Fame for More than a Century
Rolex Watches
Rolex has created for itself an international success and should be considered one of the most famous brand in watchmaking. This dates back as far as a century ago with its extraordinary watchmaking skills and superior branding image.
Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and started using the brand name in 1908. It was awarded the first official chronometer certification for its wristwatch. Making its major breakthrough was in 1926 when its Oyster watch was developed and patented as the first water-resistant airtight timepiece.
It was tested and confirmed of its superiority when Mercedes Gleitze wore the watch and swam across the English Channel. This laid the future of Oyster collection within Rolex’s future high-tech watches.
In 1931, its Perpetual Rotor was created which allows self-winding mechanism to function continuously by a simple flick of the wrist. Its Oyster Datejust was invented in 1945 that was the first watch to display the date automatically.
Other famous personalities that helped make the brand name more famous were Chuck Yeager who wore the watch while defying the speed of sound in 1947, and Sir Edmund Hillary who wore a Rolex and climbed Mt. Everest in 1953. Thereafter, many more athletes and Olympic contenders wore their watch and endorsed the brand through their sporting endeavors.
Over the years, many other versions of Oyster were developed. Oyster Professional Cosmograph Daytona is one of many favorites among collectors due to its 72 hours power reserve with Micro-star micrometer screw regulation and COSC chronometer. It has a tachometer scale on its bezel and three counter chronograph: minute at 3, small seconds at 6, and hour at 9.
Some other famous Oyster collections under Professional and Perpetual are:
Oyster Perpetual Date GMT Master II
Oyster Perpetual Date Explorer II
Oyster Perpetual Air King

The other model that the company has putting emphasis on is the Cellini collection. These are classically designed elegant timepieces. One of its best selling would be Cellinium, where it is made of platinum with hand engraved mother-of-pearl guilloche patterned dial as well as a small seconds subdial at 6.
Another attractive model would be Cellini Danaos Gents. It uses a white and pink gold or yellow case or white gold case with a dial that is either dual toned black or white dial. It is uses a manual-winding mechanical movement that simply indicates the hour and minute function.
