Hamilton Khaki Automatic Base Jump Chronograph
The Hamilton Khaki Automatic Base Jump Chronograph was inspired by base jumping, a thoroughly adrenaline-pumping sport not without its risks. The most striking feature of the watch is its sheer size, designed to be forceful and highly visible. This timepiece houses an automatic ETA Valjoux Caliber 7750. It contains 25 jewels that vibrate at 28,800 times per hour. This caliber is turned on its head in this watch, as shown by the unconventional inverted day-date display at 9, and the subsidiary seconds at 3. The main functions are hours, minutes, subsidiary seconds; chronograph; date and weekday.

The black PVD-coated titanium casing has a diameter of 51.6mm, one of the largest cases around to lend masculinity and sportiness to the timepiece. The bidirectionally rotating bezel controls the chronograph functions: the inside of the bezel has two ramp-like surfaces that activate pins for the chronograph buttons when the ring is rotated. A spring ensures the bezel returns to the start. As cheekily instructed on the bezel, turning it to the left starts the timing, and more turning stops it. The protected non-slip crown is equipped with a security lever lock to ease turning in difficult conditions. Water-resistance is to 5 atm. The face and case-back are both made of sapphire crystal and are anti-reflective. The transparent case-back further allows a view of the movement within. The Hamilton Khaki Automatic Base Jump Chronograph featured here is a black textured dial with a “Clous-de-Paris” pattern in the center. The bold Arabic numerals are applied on to lend complexity to this easily legible dial. The strap is a matching black rubber with buckle.
