Making a Difference with
Franck Muller

It was in 1992 that Franck Muller started his company and workshop in Genthod, outside of Geneva, Switzerland. Since his graduation from Ecole d’Horlogerie at the age of 23, he has been working on restoration work for collectors. He even created his own design with his signature before the company started.

His timepieces were sought after internationally after the launched of its collection of various complications. He was able to combine many difficult complications within one timepiece like his 1993 premiere – split-seconds chronograph, minute repeater, perpetual calendar, and internal temperature indicator.

One of the ultimate breakthrough from Franck Muller took them three years of research and development that gave it many patients is the Cintree Curvex Tourbillon Revolution. Its tourbillon case can be raised closer to the sapphire crystal by a single push of a button.

Simultaneously, the central hands will shift to 12 o’clock position to avoid interfering with the rise up of the tourbillon case.

Below is a picture of the Cintree Curvex Tourbillon Revolution 2. It has two flyback readings which is on each side of the tourbillon aperture: the 60-second rotation of the tourbillon's first axis is indicated at 7 and the eight minutes rotation of the tourbillon's second axis is indicated at 5.

The Cintree Curvex Perpetual Calendar Retrograde Equation encompasses a complex retrograde mechanism at 6. Not only does it indicates the month but also an equation of time function differentiating the time between the true solar day and mean solar day with numbers above the month. It also has a power reserve of 42 hours with 25 jewels in its movement.

Another range of collection from Franck Muller is the Long Island which is still a tonneau-shaped case but without the convex side and instead a geometrically curve to the front. The Long Island Perpetual Calendar and Long Island Master Calendar are two complications that house a moonphase function and has a 47 hours power reserve.

The Perpetual Calendar indicates its perpetual calendar function in subdials at positions 3, 6, 9, and 12 while the Master Calendar indicates the full calendar (not including the year) function in central counters and windows.

The next Franck Muller collection to introduce is the Ronde range. Its Ronde Chronograph Perpetual Bi-retrograde is beautifully designed where date and day of the week are indicated opposite each other on the dial by two separate retrograde hands. It also contains a perpetual calendar function including a moonphase.

The Ronde Chronograph Master Banker is able to present an additional two time zones base on two counters which has two subdial hands each. At the same time, it still has the chronograph function with two counters focusing on minutes and the small seconds. The dial’s intricate detailing is it is made of white porcelain and another version is a Havana dial.

The Transamerica range has a curved tonneau-shaped case with a rounded bezel giving it more sporty look compared to the previous collections. Some of the collections are:

Transamerica Chronograph
Transamerica World Time
Transamerica Double Retrograde Seconds
