Dubey and Schaldenbrand
Great Complications

Dubey and Schaldenbrand was officially founded in 1946 by Georges Dubey and Rene Schaldenbrand. Georges Dubey was a teacher at La Chaux-de-fonds Watchmaking School. He created the Index Mobile (a chronographic second-division system) in the early 1940s.

Then Schaldenbrand joined hands with Dubey to apply the Index Mobile into their collection of watches. In 1947 -48, the company managed to patent the Index Mobile worldwide.

Cinette Robert, the new owner of the company, has been in the watch industry since the age of 16. Her strong interest in the watch making industry made her collect over the years about 6,000 limited edition movements.

She adapted these movements into “retro” watches and became an independent dealer. Dubey after achieving his 17th tourbillon pocket watch in 1990 retired in 1995 after selling Dubey and Schaldenbrand to Robert.

The company has their workshops in Les Brenets. Its focus is specializing in dress watches with a “retro” feel. Some of their great complications produced were calendars, large dates, power reserves and time zones.

They have based a lot of their movements on ETA and Valjoux calibers. There are limited editions produced from the company that have movements already no longer produced worldwide.

Through its commitment toward high quality, distinctive styles and exceptional craftsmanship, they were able to regain its popularity worldwide by exporting up to 5,000 pieces in 2001.

One of their well-known collections was the Gran' Chrono series. In 2000, they created the Gran’ Chrono Astro that has a full calendar function (including moonphase) and a chronograph with two counters.

Another popular mens watches collection is the Aerodyn models that use its distinctive tonneau-shaped case.
Aerodyn Date
Aerodyn Duo
Aerodyn Elegance
Aerochrono

Of particular interest to me was the Carre Cambre series because of its cushion-shaped case which was a 1920s trend. The Carre Cambre Calendar is a classic designed watch with a big date that is displayed in two separate windows. Other Carre Cambre collections that have wonderful movements and dial designs are Carre Cambre Diplomatic and Carre Cambre Caprice 03.

Other extraordinary collections are:
Spiral One
Spiral Rattrapante
Sonnerie Alarm GMT
Aquadyn
