Blancpain Fifty Fathoms
To understand how Blancpain Fifty Fathoms collection came about, we revisit the brand's rich heritage in conscientiously creating advanced timepieces appreciated by watch connoisseurs. In 1952, two French Ministry of Defence officers approached Blancpain with the virtually impossible task (then) of a watch that could withstand conditions faced by the “Combat divers” unit. The first model launched in 1953 was water-resistant to a depth of 50 fathoms, or 91.45m, and also featured the revolutionary unidirectional bezel associated with many modern dive watches. Fifty Fathoms was soon widely received by the militaries of different countries for its reliability under extreme conditions. Today, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is no exception. Containing a less complicated movement than the Fifty Fathoms Tourbillon introduced within this site as well, the Sport Fifty Fathoms is no less desirable with its easy to read dial.

The movement utilizes the automatic Blancpain Caliber 1315 with 35 jewels that vibrate at 28,800 times per hour. The remarkable thing about this timepiece is that the movement is protected from magnetic fields by a soft iron core. The stainless steel case is 45mm in diameter and 15.5mm in height. It features a unidirectionally rotating bezel with sapphire crystal inlay. The face is also made of sapphire crystal. The crown is screwed in. Water-resistance is to 30 atm. The main functions are hours, minutes, sweep seconds; and a date aperture between 4 and 5. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms black dial has silvered luminous Arabic numerals and indexes. This brilliant timepiece is completed by a black synthetic textile strap with a buckle, giving it a sleek look with the solid blackness. Another option is a stainless steel bracelet, which is no less fetching. The other model reference 5015-1127-52 comes in full white version with similar spec as this black model, reference 5015-1130-52.
